Roof update

I posted a message at the beginning of the week about the roof, saying that we hoped it would be done by the end of the week. Well, that is not going to happen and the revised date for completion of the roof is now next Fri, 4th Nov.

The reasons are that the initial timescale for the roofing part of the project was ambitious, due to Alex's misunderstanding around the stages involved in waterproofing the roof, based on the specific type of tiles we have. We've got a certain type of tile which looks as close to the old style of tile as possible, but they are not interlocking tiles. This means that the roofing job requires a coat of bitumen over the boards, felt, slats then tiling. The pitch of the roof dictates that we have to take these extra water proofing measures, because the likelihood of leaking is increased unless this is done. That's all fair enough I suppose, until the fella doing the bitumen doesn't turn up.

Anyway, here we are on Friday and apparently the bitumen is going on this afternoon. The lead valleys were in place yesterday and next week should be felting, slatting and tiling with the aim of completion by Fri. Windows are on order, so they should be in place shortly after and we can get on with the kitchen, which is now the priority.

The sparkies have also been today, to get the cables in place. Anne has done an amazing job at co-ordinating everything, but the poor lass is feeling a bit fed up now. I've booked December off work, literally, to try and do as much as I can in the final push.

Anyway, will post some pics over the weekend.
