The End?
We've left the flooring as late as possible, to give the screed floor a chance to dry out properly. So, the flooring was all sorted this week. There are still little things to sort, such as doors planing and then waxing, some skirting to be painted, a splashback behind the hob, but won't there always be?
As we start a new chapter in our lives with the imminent arrival of Dransfield Junior II, I think it's probably time to officially draw this blog to a close. We've almost forgotten the seriously dark and depressing days during the project. However, should we ever contemplate any future project, I hope this blog will serve as a reminder about how truly hideous an experience it was at times.
Now it's time to start enjoying our enlarged family. Spring is here, and everything is looking up.
It's been emotional.

Milestone - the end is in sight!!
Jane and Ed were with us again for the whole weekend, which has been a massive help. Of course Anne was also around and still on her hands and knees glossing, priming, undercoating (not in that order) at 32 weeks pregnant. She likes to have a mention in my blog, so there you go lass!
Today, Gary is fitting the carpets throughout the house, with the exception of the lounge, the floor of which we're waiting to be fully dry before doing anything. A dehumidifier has been working day and night for the last few days.
We're now starting to reminisce about the dark days of the project, which is surely a sign that we're feeling much more optimistic. We're on the final straight. Next weekend is cleaning and unpacking, at which point we should be turning the house back into our home. Can't wait!
Jobs still to do:
Carpets and Lino
Bath plumbed in upstairs
Wall lights fitted in lounge, dining room, landing
Clean everywhere
Garage unpacked and things back in place
Garage tidied
Things taken to the tip
Kitchen flooring and lounge flooring
Have a baby

End of January update
Most recent events involve the kitchen installation, and final work with electrics and plumbing. Kitchen is getting painted today and Andy should be completing much of the remaining plumbing work.
Outstanding jobs are:
2nd fix electrics in dining room and family room
2nd fix plumbing for bath upstairs and family room/dining room rads
carpeting entrance hall, baby's room, lounge, hall stairs and landing,
kitchen flooring
lino in bathrooms
final coats of calico in baby's room, family room and dining room
guest bedroom to be re-decorated
outside area to be re-gravelled
Jane and Ed helped this weekend with the painting. Jane was mainly looking after the hall stairs and landing, I concentrated on family room and dining room and Anne was woodwork. Ed helped here and there with odd jobs like sanding, hoovering, insulating, inbetween dealing with the children, which was really useful.
Next weekend we have the remaining coats of natural calico to get sorted in the dining room, lounge and the baby's room.
On Monday 6th Feb, we have the carpets getting fitted and I think we can then start bringing our posessions out of hibernation and back into the house from the garage. That will be a milestone in the whole project, as we start to re-claim the house and make it home again.
Mid-Feb is still looking like the target for internal jobs to be done, we then have silly things like getting the decking down outside, cleaning UPVC outside etc. They're all small-fry in comparison though.

Post Xmas & NY Update
We had convinced ourselves not to bother with e dining room and family room, but when we moved things over to the new are of the house, Anne got a second wind and convinced us that it was worth dealing with the mess all in one go, rather than waiting another 18 months and resuming.
So, as things stand:
Kitchen - elec fix (apart from cooker hood), painted and waiting for units installation on w/c 23rd Jan. Flooring to be re-laid
Lounge - elec fix, painted and waiting for carpet
Sun room - elec fix, needs one more white coat, waiting for flooring.
Our bedroom - done, we're sleeping in it now. Just needs final furniture and dressing.
Baby's room - elec fix, needs 2 x coats of calico
Hallway - elec fix, painted but needs carpet down and dressing.
Bathroom - elec fix, painted, shower in, all plumbed. Waiting for flooring and needs dressing.
Dining room & family room: stripped, sanded 1st fix elecs done, rads off. Needs skimming this week and painting w/c 23rd, then 2nd fix elecs.
Hall, stairs and landing: sanded, needs sugar soaping and painting.
Upstairs bathroom: elec fix, painted. Shower not draining properly, so needs a look at. Sinks and toilet are all plumbed in and tiling done. Bath needs fitting and flooring needs to go down.
Balcony bedroom: wet spot on ceiling needs investigating, remove dado rails, sand down, sugar soap and paint. Then flooring and re-dress as guest room, which G&g seem to be very excited about.
Well, that should keep us busy until the middle of Feb. Oh, I almost forgot, the baby is 28 weeks old now and growing! Off to Zambia next week with work and back on 23rd and midnight.
Pictures to follow...
